CLASS DESCRIPTION
In this workshop Nickole, founder of NW Ayurveda and Vanessa, founder of Madrona House Apothecary are teaming up to provide a trauma informed, Ayurvedic approach to managing anxiety.

Ayurveda, the science of life, guides us on how to be in your body and less in your mind. In this workshop you’ll learn about the Five Vayus (direction of air) and how to identify when one or all five Vayus are out of balance. Through use of oils, spices, and food we can antidote the Vayus, plus the gunas (qualities) of anxiety.

Nickole will guide you through an internal mantra, breath meditation that is accessible anytime of the day. Continued by application of Marma (energy points) with oils you have on hand or pre-order a special blend of medicated oils created by Vanessa. Vanessa will share some trauma informed embodiment tools and practices for self care followed by a selection of herbs and their best applications.

We’ll reach out once you’ve signed up to talk about appropriate oils to use and give you an opportunity to order from Vanessa. She uses nervine and sedating herbs infused into a base of coconut and sesame oils with your choice of essential oils. 2oz of oil is $10, shipping included! PLEASE BE SURE TO SIGN UP BEFORE OCT 12TH TO ENSURE WE GET YOUR OIL TO YOU IN TIME FOR THE CLASS!

WHAT YOU’LL LEAVE WITH:
– techniques and tools to calm your nervous system
– herbs to support your mind and body
– handouts with terminology and techniques of Ayurveda.
– Link to class recording

Vanessa is a healing arts practitioner of 14 years as a licensed massage therapist, craniosacral therapist, sound healer, certified coach, certified ayurvedic wellness counselor, energetic + spiritual healer, and amateur herbalist. She offers trauma informed somatic shadow work and energetic healing to uncover current patterns, limiting beliefs, and internalized kyriarchy that keeps you from living in alignment with your true nature, establishing personal sovereignty and healthy boundaries, and gaining a rooted sense of self.

Vanessa studied under Dr. Jayarajan Kodikaneth, an Indian doctor from Kerala India, and Nickole Thornton Gonzales, a Seattle local studying under Dr. Vasant Lad, an Indian doctor, teacher, and founder of the Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico. As a 4th generation immigrant from Greece, Vanessa is now studying how humorism and Unani medicine, from Mediteranean, Middle Eastern, and Indian origins, compares with the tridoshic theories of Ayurveda. If you’d like more information about Ayurveda and Vanessa’s comparative ancestral practices, please visit http://www.vanessaainslie.com/apothecary.html

A LITTLE HISTORY
In the 18th century, when the British colonized India, Ayurveda, India’s prevailing sources of science, medicine, and spirituality, was oppressed and relegated to the outskirts of rural areas where it was still practiced. In very recent years, Ayurveda has been experiencing a resurgence and has made its way to America in two different ways. Many westerners, feeling the loss and severance of their own cultures, traveled to India in search of deeper meanings to life. At the same time, Ayurveda has been brought to the states by Ayurvedic doctors in an attempt to popularize and bring back this ancient science of healing and is offered freely for Americans to use.

From NAMA (national ayurvedic medical association) in History of Ayurveda:

“In the mid- to late-20th century, seekers from the West began to travel to India The teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda were rediscovered by a generation disenchanted with the reductionism and materialism that had come to characterize Western thought, initiating an explosion of interest that continues to this very day. By the early 1980s, Dr. Vasant Lad, Dr. Robert Svoboda, and David Frawley were spreading the teachings of Ayurveda throughout the United States. The publication of “Perfect Health: The Complete Mind/Body Guide”, by Deepak Chopra, served to popularize Ayurveda among the general public. Rooted in remote antiquity, and having survived and grown through the vicissitudes of time, Ayurveda now faces a bright future in India, the United States and across the world.”
